Community Art Market Coming to Amityville Village!

Discover Local Crafts, Poetry and Music.

Spring is here and our downtown is looking great!  I hope you are enjoying an upturn in business now that the weather is warming up.

I am happy to report that the Village will be hosting a new attraction to draw in visitors, art lovers and shoppers to our downtown. We are working with Colored Colors, an arts organization that has conducted numerous markets and performances across Long Island, to feature a Community Art Market on the Village Triangle on Broadway and Park Avenue.  This is the organization that brought us a top-notch Long Island music event in the municipal library lot last year. Their arts events all strive to promote local businesses and help attract new clientele to towns, villages, and neighborhoods.

The weekend market will kick off on the weekend of May 15th (Saturday and Sunday) and is slated to run through the weekend of June 12th.  Hours are 12 noon to 5 p.m. with set up starting at 10:30 a.m., and break down by 6 p.m.  The market will complement the Farmer’s Market which returns to its usual location at 9/11 Park starting on June 12th.

You can expect music and poetry in the gazebo and approximately 20 arts and crafts vendors on the triangle. Our goal is to showcase our downtown and increase foot traffic to our existing stores and restaurants in our downtown. No food will be sold at the event and vendors will be parked in nearby lots, leaving spaces for your regular clientele.

At this time we do not have plans to close the streets, which we know can inconvenience some of our retail establishments. If this should change, we will let you know.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to this exciting new initiative that will allow us to show off all we have to offer here in Amityville.

Respectfully,

Mayor Dennis Siry
